Celtic would be just as good as Arsenal or Liverpool. However, they will not win a trophy. in the Premier League. Rangers i will compare to Sunderland or Blackurn Rovers. By the way, this is a good question. I really applaud the asker of this question becaue I am a die hard football fan and i have not realized that these two teams have the aptitude to compete in one of the best leagues in the world. If Celtic can challenge Arsenal or Liverpool, Rangers can challenge them too. Remember, they won the scottish cup and league last year. They won’t join the Premier League because of the money they get from European competitions. It would also kill the SPL as we know it because clubs like Aberdeen get tv revenue because broadcasting companies pay for the SPL package mainly for Rangers and Celtic matches.
With the teams they have at the moment, both would be very lucky to dodge relegation. But it’s not something that’s going to happen anytime soon, if ever at all.
But it makes for good conversation, speculation, paper sales and TV ratings doesn’t it?
It depends on what you mean by competitive. They wouldn’t challenge the top 7 or 8 clubs but would probably be better than the bottom 6 or 6 sides.
The EPL and clubs from EPL down the Championship line would not allow them into the comp. Perhaps if they had a super comp with teams from the top European nations?
You’ll be lucky if Celtic and Rangers get 5 million pound to spend every summer but they can still mount a challenge against the best teams in the world, a few results to prove it:

It appears as if other things would need to be placed in motion for this to happen and it would probably mean a realignment of considerable proportions of at least a couple of leagues, if not more. It would be quite interesting, but it isn’t going to happen by itself.
